Family Struggles

If you think for one second that there is a family out there that is perfect, you are wrong. Only Jesus is perfect. EVERY family has it's struggles. It just so happens that maybe some people can deal with their struggles better than others. I'm not about to say that one family's struggles are easier than another's because I don't really believe that either. I just believe that no matter the struggle, you can get help. For example, I heard a story of a family whose son had sexually molested his young sister and brother. He was sent off to a rehabilitation center for two years and hadn't spoken to anyone from his family for those two years. They finally went to therapy as a family and got the help they needed. They were able to find forgiveness for themselves and for this son/brother. No matter what the world throws at a family, there is hope and help for everyone-all dependent on whether or not they are willing to accept the help and change.
It is also important to remember that when something bad happens to one member of the family, it effects EVERYONE in the family. Everyone is connected and involved. We can say that if brother Jimmy has a disease and is hospitalized frequently that it is only effecting Jimmy, it effects everyone in the family. That goes for mental health challenges, financial struggles etc. Sometimes, when going through these hard times, people will choose to ignore the problem, or be in denial that there even is a problem. This is not healthy. Though being in denial for a little bit does help us cope and process what has/is happening, we cannot live in ignorance forever. Ignorance never fixed any problems. We need to identify the issue and voice the hurt. Then if necessary, get help. There is no shame in family therapy. Obviously. It is a great tool that will help to heal wounds and build trust again.
Just know that whatever struggle your families faces, whether now or in the future, it won't last forever. And there is something you can do-you can reach out and suggest family therapy. God put us on this Earth in families for a reason. We can't abandon ship at first glance of struggle. Do all you can to fix the problem and I promise you will be happy that you did.
